Recently, Our CE Melissa Gibson, had the privilege of standing alongside Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa to mark the opening of Whare Te Ao Āpōpō - a place of stability, support, and hope for taiohi (young people) experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
This kaupapa is more than just bricks and mortar – it's a whare of belonging, a commitment to manaakitanga, and a practical expression of aroha for rangatahi navigating hardship.
Open to youth aged 16-25 who are without safe or secure accommodation, Whare Te Ao Āpōpō ensures these young people have not just a roof over their heads, but wraparound support that sees them, uplifts them, and walks beside them.
Ngā mihi nui ki a Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa for your unwavering leadership and commitment to taiohi and whānau.
Your kaupapa - Whānau First, Tikanga-Based, Wellbeing Approach - is a shining example of what’s possible when aroha guides action and when tikanga anchors every step.
We celebrate your service, your vision, and the transformative space you've created for our youth.
